Magnitogorsk is a fairly young Ural city, famous for its metallurgical plant. It was thanks to "Magnitka" that the small settlement began to develop and reached its current status. The city does not forget about its history. The MMK Museum was opened, and monuments were created in memory of that period. One of the most notable is the First Tent monument in honor of the plant's builders.

However, the sights of the city are not limited to ferrous metallurgy. Architecturally interesting is the German Quarter, built by prisoners of war. It looks more like a Western European city than the Ural realities. Park "Lukomorye" offers tourists many opportunities for leisure. And the local theater is one of the ten best among the provincial ones.

What to see and where to go in Magnitogorsk?

The most interesting and beautiful places for walking. Photos and a short description.

Monument "Rear - Front"

The largest monument in the Chelyabinsk region was erected in 1979. It is located in Victory Park on the banks of the Ural River. Shells and tanks made of Magnitogorsk steel during the Great Patriotic War played an important role in the victory over the Nazis. With the help of the monument, the sculptor L. Golovnitsky and the architect Y. Belopolsky noted the contribution of the home front workers and their close relationship with the front-line soldiers. The eternal flame burns in front of the monument.

Holy Ascension Cathedral

Due to lack of money, it took almost 15 years to build it. The works were repeatedly frozen, and the object was commissioned only in 2003. In addition to the seven-domed cathedral, the temple complex includes: a chapel, a house of mercy, a belfry, a Sunday school, a first-aid post and a hotel for pilgrims. The height of the temple building is 42 meters. The iconostasis consists of 108 icons painted in different periods and by different masters.

Chimes

They are located in the central part of the city, opposite the administration building. The construction was timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Magnitogorsk. The architect A. Ponamarev was responsible for the project. The grand opening took place in 1979. The chimes are 29 meters high. A clock is attached to the top on each of the four sides of the tower. Soon after installation, the mechanism malfunctioned, but it was promptly repaired, and since then there have been no complaints.

Monument "First Tent"

Opened in 1966. The monument is a dedication to the first builders of the local plant. They had to live in tents immediately after arriving in the city. Worked on the project: architect E. Alexandrov and artist L. Golovnitsky. The height of the monument is 3.4 meters. It is made up of concrete blocks. Along the perimeter of the base, lines from a poem by Boris Ruchyov, who was among the builders, are written in large letters.

German quarter

In the post-war years, a prisoner of war camp was located on this territory. They also built the quarter under the supervision of Soviet architects. Despite their position, the forced construction workers approached the work responsibly. Most of the buildings here are no more than two stories high. Western European motives of past years are visible in the architecture. Each building has a separate project, and you will not find two identical ones here.

Drama theater. Pushkin

The year of its foundation is 1937. However, even before the assignment of the corresponding status and the name of Pushkin, there was a theater of working youth in the city. At one time a member of the troupe was the People's Artist Leonid Bronevoy. The performances alternate: classical pieces are replaced by experiments in a modern way. At the moment it is one of the ten best provincial theaters in Russia.

MMK Museum

It has been open to the general public since 1973. The exposition is occupied by the House of Defense. During the excursion, tourists are told about the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works and the first builders who lived in tents, show their products and focus on the company's impact on the city. Samples of military equipment are exhibited here: its production during the Great Patriotic War predetermined the course of history.

Magnitogorsk art gallery

Created in 1980. The current building is a former bookstore. The gallery was moved here in 1986. The collection is based on works of fine art of the last century. Also exhibited are graphics and sculptures from the 19th century. Temporary exhibitions are held on the basis of the funds of the Hermitage and the Tretyakov Gallery. An information center has been operating at the gallery since 2007. Several educational programs have been created for young visitors.

Magnitogorsk Museum of History and Local Lore

The first city museum was opened in 1944. It was originally based on the premises of the school. After several moves, the collection settled in the current building. The exhibition space exceeds one thousand square meters, and the funds contain about 100 thousand storage units. Most of the exposition is devoted to industry and the local metallurgical plant. The archaeological department is based on finds in the Malo-Kizilsky settlement and Aganovo-II.

Museum-apartment of Boris Ruchyov

Opened in 1975 and is located in the house where Ruchiev lived. Boris Alexandrovich is a local poet who participated in the construction of a metallurgical plant. His works were often devoted to workers. In 1967, Ruchyov received the State Prize for Lyubava. The exhibits of the museum are not only personal belongings and the first editions of the poet, but objects that tell about the literary life of the entire region.

Park "Lukomorye"

Located within the boundaries of the sports club "Metallurg-Magnitogorsk". Guests are greeted by a wooden gate with wrought iron inserts. Admission is free, the park is open from 10 am to 10 pm. Fairy tale characters and interesting structures are scattered throughout the territory. Sports grounds, mini golf and a court are available for active visitors. On holidays, performances are held on the local stage.

Aquapark "Waterfall of Miracles"

The only water and entertainment complex of this scale in the region. It works all year round from morning to late evening. Of the 7 pools, one is used for sports swimming. There is an opportunity to work out with an instructor, both for children and adults. 4 slides and 10 attractions are responsible for the entertainment component. The water temperature does not drop below 28 °.

Arena-Metallurg

The ice arena was commissioned in 2007. The capacity is 7,500 spectators. The stands are movable, which allows you to change the configuration of the arena. Not only sports competitions are held here, but also fairs, exhibitions, festivals. KHL matches, concerts of pop stars, ice shows are the most frequent events. On the second floor of the arena there is the Museum of Hockey Glory, where the trophies of FC Metallurg are exhibited.

Ski center "Metallurg Magnitogorsk"

Built 40 km from Magnitogorsk in the mountains of the Southern Urals. There are 7 tracks, 2 of them are training tracks. The longest route is 2.5 km. The lifts are modern, both on the big mountain and on the slope for beginners. Any equipment is available on a rental basis. Tourists are offered to leave their belongings in the storage room. There are instructors and service technicians available. The "Bear" club is open for young skiers.

Viewpoint

There is a hill on the left bank of the Urals - the best place to view the city. The authorities have repeatedly tried to give the observation deck a well-appointed look, but it remains not very well-groomed. The territory attracts not only tourists, but also those who like to leave graffiti of dubious quality, drink alcohol and litter. The view from here is interesting, but the condition of the site itself leaves much to be desired.
