Short story
The second Nameless Tower is a historical monument of Russia. The architects placed it to the east of the First Nameless Tower, and from Petrovskaya to the west.
All towers can be seen in the southern part of the Kremlin wall (along the Moskva River). When it was erected, the craftsmen pursued the following goal - to build an intermediate tower on the southern side of the Moscow Kremlin, performing a defensive function. And their plan was a success - in 1480, the tower adorned and complemented its wall.

Connoisseurs of historical monuments will recognize the second Nameless Tower by its octagonal tent equipped with a weather vane. There is no overlap between the upper quadrangle and the tent, and one part of the structure passes into another. The inner part of the Second Nameless Tower is represented by two levels of rooms, the lower of which goes into a cylindrical vault, and the upper one ends with a closed vault with stripping. The entire structure has a square section, and although it reaches 30.2 m in height, it is still considered the lowest of all the towers of the Moscow Kremlin.
Second Nameless Tower - Design Changes
The following can be said about whether the tower has undergone architectural changes. Initially, it looked like a squat quadrangle, but a couple of centuries after the tower was erected, this main quadrangle was supplemented with a four-sided tent and a watchtower. It was in 1680. However, the masters did not confine themselves to this decision, and at the beginning of the 18th century they supplemented the tower with a gate.
But in this form, the Second Nameless Tower did not stand for long - in 1771 it, like other structures of the southern Kremlin wall, was dismantled, and this was done for the sake of building another attraction, the name of which is the Bazhenov Grand Kremlin Palace. But as soon as the work on its construction came to an end, the masters began to restore the tower.
As in ancient times, the Second Nameless Tower is still remarkable for tourists visiting the capital of Russia. And everything is really attractive in it: the original appearance, and the interior design, and the harmonious combination of wall colors - a brick, but bright shade, and deep saturated greenery. Inspection of the structures that make up the wall of the Moscow Kremlin is usually part of the educational excursions held in the old part of the capital city.
