The name "Chile" in the language of the local Indians means "cold, wintry", which is associated with their perception of the snow-capped peaks of the Andes. In the skiing off-season, from June to October, people go downhill skiing in Chile, and from September to February they come here to sunbathe on the white beaches.

List of attractions in Chile

Short description

All year round, the country has excellent conditions for trekking, mountaineering and ecotourism. Chile and all of South America in the south end in the rocky Cape Horn, dominated by constant fogs, hurricane winds, strong currents, storms and cold.

Villarrica volcano

The southern regions of Chile, called Patagonia, are attractive granite mountains, "towers", which alternate with tundra and dense forests, glaciers and valleys with shining blue lakes. In the north of the country, at an altitude of 4570 m, there is one of the highest mountain lakes in the world - Chungara, surrounded by snow-capped volcanic peaks. The area is home to pink flamingos, Andean ducks and hundreds of bird species. At the foot of the Andes on the Pacific coast lies the Atacama Desert, the driest place on Earth. Despite the fact that there is no precipitation here for several hundred years, and moisture comes only in the form of fogs, in September-November the desert is covered with a motley carpet. The bloom is caused by the El Niño climatic phenomenon associated with the arrival of air masses from the Pacific Ocean. From Atacama, the path leads to the valley of the geysers of El Tatio, where water and puffs of steam beat from the bowels of the earth with violent force. Easter Island is widely known outside the country, located 3700 km from the continental coast of Chile. The island has 997 "moai" - mysterious statues carved from soft volcanic tuff.

Colonial flavor of Chile

In a valley sandwiched between mountain ranges, lies Santiago, the capital of Chile. In the center of the city, on the top of the Santa Lucia hill, there is a medieval castle... It was on this hill that the Spanish colonizer Pedro de Valdivia founded Santiago.

Torres del Paine National Park

The monument to the founder of the city was erected in the "Plaza of Arms", which is adjacent to historical buildings such as the House of Governors, the Municipality and the building of the Royal Audience, which now houses a museum dedicated to Chilean painting. The most famous buildings of Santiago are undoubtedly the Cathedral and La Maneda Palace - the official residence of the President of Chile. The city is "guarded" by a white-stone statue of the Virgin Mary, installed on Mount San Cristobal. Valparaiso is located 120 km from Santiago, in a picturesque bay - the main port of Chile, known for the fact that it was here that the first Spanish colonizers landed. The historic center of the city is a web of winding streets, colonial villas and outskirts of the hills, which lead to paths, stairs and funiculars. 10 km from Valparaiso is the seaside resort of Viña del Mar, nicknamed the "garden city" because of its subtropical climate, white beaches, an abundance of palms and banana trees.
