Many tourists who are actively conquering the countries of Western and Central Europe face the need to apply for a Schengen visa. But the question may arise about the need to suspend the period of entry permit. Today we have to figure out how to cancel a Schengen visa, where to start and in what cases this happens.

What is a Schengen visa

Let's start, perhaps, by clarifying the concept of "Schengen visa". In order not to load with incomprehensible words and terms, let us explain that Schengen gives the right to citizens of Russia and other countries that are not part of the zone of the same name to visit European countries that have signed an agreement on the creation of the Schengen zone. Without this document, no one will let you cross the border.

Thus, if you issue such a pass, for example, to Italy, you can easily visit France, Spain and a number of other countries. As a rule, border checks between these states are formal.

Cancellation policy

Now let's talk about what to do if you decide to cancel your visa. Everyone understands that this entails the suspension of the right to enter the countries of Western and Central Europe, which are part of a single zone.

There are three cases when it becomes necessary to cancel the pass: on the personal initiative of the holder of the document, in the event that a discrepancy is found in the pass, and also, if violations are committed by the tourist himself. The most common are cases of suspension of an entry permit by border services. Service officers actively resort to this type of sanctions against violators of border control. To avoid this, strictly comply with the requirements of customs regulations and the conditions that are spelled out in your permit.

Personal initiative

You can also cancel Schengen on your own initiative. For example, the need to suspend the validity of the document may arise if the period of the issued permit expires, and you plan to stay longer in one of the European countries. Accordingly, you will have to start by visiting the embassy, which will provide you with all the necessary information.

Each country puts forward its own requirements for the process of obtaining an entry pass and the suspension of its validity. For example, when you receive a visa to Italy, the previous document is automatically terminated. In order for your application for the suspension of the pass to be considered, you must provide:

  • a petition with reasons;
  • copies of both passports;
  • a form filled in in accordance with the established procedure (issued at the consulate itself).

Please note that when considering the package of documents and your application, personal presence is required.

Suspended due to error

If you yourself discovered an error in Schengen, or you were pointed out to a discrepancy in the border service, you can also contact the consulate in order to cancel the document. The most common inconsistency concerns owner data.

Since corrections cannot be made in the pass, you will have to take steps to obtain a new document. But you will not be given it until the validity of the one already issued is terminated. If you find an error, then you need to act according to the above scheme: contact the consulate with an application and the necessary documents, indicate the reason for the appeal and wait for the appropriate decision.

Cancellation due to irregularities

The border guards themselves can also terminate the Schengen visa if the foreigner violates the established procedure for crossing the border and passing customs control.

For example, among the main prerequisites for cancellation of a visa by the border service should be highlighted:

  • identification of discrepancies in the specified and real purpose of the trip
  • violation by a foreigner of the visa regime
  • stay on the territory of the state for longer than the allotted period (it is considered a violation if the tourist is in the country for more than 2 days).

At the same time, you will never be denied a visa if your delay to the place of border control was caused by circumstances that do not depend on you. For example, a delay of only a few hours does not entail the cancellation of Schengen, if this is caused by transport delays, force majeure, etc.

A visa can also be canceled in cases where a tourist arrives at a border control point without those documents that give the right to enter the country. These are life and health insurance policies, and certificates of the financial situation of foreigners, etc. Similar consequences will be for tourists who indicated incorrect data.

So we figured out how to cancel a Schengen visa, what actions need to be taken on our own and for what reasons the permit will be suspended by the competent authorities.
